Coping With Erections When Wrestling

 

Wrestlers tend to wear tight singlets, and it can be rather embarrassing if a teenager gets an erection at an unwanted time – such as when about to compete, or train with a team mate.

This is particularly true in schools which have mixed gender wrestling teams.

Erections are embarrassing enough in the classroom, but getting them when you’re about to lock up with someone is hard to just brush off or ignore.

Often, coaches tell people to just think un-sexy thoughts, but that’s really only a partial answer.

The best thing, really, to prevent unwanted erections is to find ways to divert the blood flow. 

Cold can help, but that’s not something you can control.

Clenching your thighs and then releasing them, slowly, can often help to control erections – as can squatting heavy weights, doing burpees, or pretty much anything else that will get the blood flowing to big muscles (such as the legs and core) instead of to the penis.

If all else fails, a teenager with regular erections can wear compression pants under their singlet, and a cup, if the team allows it, so that they can tame the erections that way and stop them being visible.
